so i saw both 'no country for old men' and 'there will be blood' -- both were pretty good in their own way. i think i'm too stupid for 'no country' -- i can tell that the ending has some big significance (the story that tommy lee tells to his wife)... i need to find the cliff's notes for this movie
that dood who played anton chigurh is ridiculously crazy -- i can't see him in any other role than a crazy assassin... that weapon he had (cattlegun) was the craziest device -- multipurpose too!
i liked 'blood' a little better tho -- lewis' voice was cool to listen to... i just wanted to punch to pastor in the face so many times
i guess this makes a ton of sense now:
i also did something pretty cool -- did an impromptu brewery crawl with greg and geoff in my neighborhood (who knew?): alesmith, ballast point (winnah), and lightning brewery. all these three were located in random business parks and had really good prices for their beer. i actually got a growler (1/2 gal) of the black marlin porter -- good stuff

Dark, creamy, velvet smooth American style Porter
i didn't even know this "guild" existed... so check this map out (page 2) -- looks like the 78 freeway should be called the "golden mile" (not shower)... i'm thinking of setting up a brewery tour from the 5 to the 15 (cuz you gotta end with stone) -- would anyone be down? c'mon! it's like a winery tour but 100x better... CUZ IT'S BEER!
after that... i headed over to andy's (yes, he's a real person) and played a slick dice game called "cacho" (or according to wiki, "dudo") -- thing is, you've already seen this game in action... it's the game that davy jones, will turner, and bootstrap bill play (and will eventually gets his ass whipped like kunta kinte)

lakers need to drive the lane if they wanna survive
lakers won, but things are looking grim as the series heads back to boston. an incredible upset will need to happen in the next 2 games. it'll be very "boston-like" if they could pull it off.
btw... sam cassell is a douchebag
got a sweet new cap [ lids ]

i wanna be in chase's entourage
and finally, headley is here [ padres ]... check out the love fest on yahoo!sports and signonsandiego. headley's gonna be startin' against the yanks, which brings to mind some unknown guy named jacob peavy (hey, we have the same middle name!)
hey look -- the padres are in 3rd place!!! only 1 game back behind the dodgers [ mlb standings ]... say all you want about the nl-worst, but the pennant is there for the taking, and the padres haven't given up quite yet.
watching this lakers game is killin' me... no one can get into the key... the shooters aren't shooting shit, the turnovers are ridiculous, defense is porous, and the ref judgment calls are shady.
oh yea... and paul pierce is a phony -- get carried off the court, the craziest look of pain on his face, so much drama... 2 minutes later, he comes out bouncing and hits 3's. riiiiight.
who the hell does leon powe think he is? that guy had an open lane and easy dunks all game long.
3 games at home should be good for the lake show -- celtics suck on the road and the lakers are undefeated.
can you tell i'm pissed? at least i don't have to sit through another "bill engvall" or "house of payne" commercial -- btw, is anyone else sick of hearing the commentators saying, "very funny" after a "house of payne" spot? seriously... is this show funny to any other race? i will never understand it
well on a better note, the padres extended their win streak to 5! longest win streak, first series sweep, solid hoffy appearance, and we moved up in the GB category -- huge!

and finally, tony clark proves his worth on the team -- apparently he's not just a singles hitter. now if only he could do that more often!
and please, peavy, young, estes... come back soon -- watching ledezma is such a horrible experience.. the slowness between pitches and the lack of control -- it's maddening!
how about that for a post name?

4 of a kind
finally... a 4-win streak for the padres. and yet... no movement in the standings tho cuz every other team in the west is winning.
btw... the padres ripped off greg's idea [ koozie ]... i wonder if they saw it on my site from last year... dammit! [ prev post ] (funny about that image with "the winning formula" -- pffft).
i'm looking to buy one of these shirts -- really cool, witty ideas [ glennz ]
there is some stupid shiz on tv -- especially on tbs. i'm so sick of seeing ads for 'house of payne' or bill engvall's shitty show. but they just took it to such a low level... actually interrupting the show... it was cool to see someone else post it on youtube
i'll admit it -- i watch a lot of tv... i watch a lot of tv when i'm sick too (which i was the other day -- otherwise, it woulda been back to back to back posts)
saw this video on mtv (yea... imagine that... music videos actually play on mtv, but only when people are at work/school) -- it's fall out boy featuring john mayer (the solo part) covering "beat it" [ youtube ] (turk and buster bluth make cameos)
and lastly, this has to be the worst commercial -- i can see this being shown back in the early 90's, but in 2008?! i love the generic "email" site that looks oddly like gmail and then BSOD! [ youtube ]

"soopafresh"
so i wanna pick up a new hobby/skill... kinetic typography [ wiki ]. i've always loved the look and detail of fonts in general, but this takes it to a whole new level. looks like the program to use is adobe after effects. check it out and you'll know what i mean: youtube
there are so many... so it makes it look like it's fairly easy to do? even people's first attempts look pretty decent.
now i gotta first get my hands on that program and then find a good movie or song to do it to -- fight club and pulp fiction look to be popular choices. it's gotta be a really good mono- or dialogue. rob suggested fifth element -- some ruby rhod would be nice... really fast text speeding past the screen.. haha
check out "i love typography" and the helvetica movie site.
something about the padres and extra innings... of course it's not without drama when hoffman's number is called. he was so strong the last time out (took him only 7 pitches to retire the side -- all strikes, mind you [ don't believe me? ])

aaron rowand caught stealing -- with style points
it was too good to be true tho -- he definitely blew this one... you can't blame edgar for not starting what woulda been an inning-ending double play -- it just shouldn't have gotten to that point.
the importance of the game? padres woulda had their first 4-game win streak, their first series sweep, and most importantly (and amazingly) 3rd place!
now's the time to strike! everyone in the nl west is tanking it... c'mon!
so now the padres will face the cubbies at home (rob and i got our season13 for tuesday's game: marquis v. ledezma)
overall the padres are turning things around... giles, adrian, kooz are hittin' the ball consistently. i'd still like to see them use their "speed" guys a bit more to steal some bags...
headley and hensley seem to be ready too -- no time like the present with peavy, young, estes on the DL
oh btw... lakers and celtics on thursday @5:30p -- but you knew that already! it's cool to see mr. hardcore-boston-fan, bill simmons, seeing the light about the lakers (awesome article)
